Fertility testicular ultrasound is a non-invasive, painless, and radiation-free medical imaging to check the location, size including volume, shape, texture, and vascularity of both testes, and it also assesses the surrounding tissues inside your scrotum. This scan includes the detailed examination of testes, epididymis, spermatic cord, and surrounding tissues of both sides of the scrotum.

One of the primary causes of male infertility is inadequate quality sperm, which is the seminal fluid that is released during sexual intercourse. This scan can be used to test for a variety of conditions that can be the cause of poor-quality sperm such as:

• Testicular atrophy (Small size of testicles).
• Undescended testicle on one or both sides (when a testicle fails to drop into its normal location in the scrotal sac during childhood).
• Blockage in spermatic cord.
• Testicular cancer.

1. What preparation do I need for the testicular scan?
No preparation is required.

2. What kind of clothing do I need to wear for this scan?
There is no specific requirement of clothing for undergoing this scan. However, wearing loose and two-piece cloths are advisable.

3. What happens during the testicular scan?
You will be asked to lie down on the scan couch (bed) comfortably. Our well qualified, experienced Consultant Radiologist or Consultant/Specialist ultrasound practitioner will put water-based gel on your scrotum. Thereafter, they examine the testicles and surrounding areas by placing the probe (camera) over them.

4. What is the duration of the scan?
The duration of the scan is usually 10 – 15 minutes and sometimes can take up to 20 minutes for one side depends on the visibility of organs and complexity of scan.
