Description

Elite Community Ultrasound (ECU) is delighted to offer this comprehensive scan or full series of scans for women who are 16 years or above and are trying to conceive as well as undergoing for fertility treatment.

This scan includes the detailed examination of your ovaries to check the size and number of follicles (a small, fluid-filled sac in the ovary that contains an immature egg) and monitor the development of these follicles, mainly the dominant (largest) follicle during the fertility treatment. Apart from this, the assessment for the endometrial (womb lining) development is also included.

This scan can also be used while you are receiving IVF treatment.

A detailed specific and targeted assessment of ovarian follicles and endometrium (womb lining) would be carried out by our specialist/consultant sonographer by performing two methods: transabdominal (through the tummy) and preferably transvaginal/internal (through the vagina).

The follicular study is a series of scans monitoring the development of a dominant follicle which starts from day 10 of your menstrual Cycle (Day 1 is the first day of your period) and will continue until the ovulation.

The process of ovulation usually happens between the 13th and 17th day of your menstrual cycle (Day 1 is the first day of your period), but sometimes it can be postponed.

The size of maturing follicle usually becomes around 16 mm on day 10 of your menstrual cycle, however follicles of size between 18 mm and 25 mm are favourable for conceiving.

Reasons for Follicular tracking/study scans:

  • To assess the number of follicles present.
  • To monitor how the uterine (womb) lining is changing.
  • To determine when your ovulation period is, so that your intercourse, IUI, or IVF procedure can be planned accordingly.
  • To know if the dose of any fertility medications you are taking is right or if it needs to be adjusted.

For more information regarding this scan, please read the under-mentioned FAQs.
