  1. Why would I need an ultrasound of my thyroid/neck?
  2. If you are experiencing any of the most common symptoms, such as:
  • Lump in the neck, including the front and lower part of your neck.
  • Sore throat.
  • Hoarse voice.
  • Pain on the front of your neck or a sensation of pressure on the neck.
  • Difficulty swallowing or breathing.
  • If you have abnormal thyroid function tests (TFTs).

  3. No preparation is required.
  4. What kind of clothing do I need to wear for this scan?
  5. There is no specific requirement of clothing for undergoing this scan. However, avoid wearing high neck clothing and neck jewellery.
  6. What happens during the thyroid/neck scan?
  7. You will be asked to lie down on the scan couch(bed) or sit down on a chair comfortably. Our well qualified, experienced Consultant Radiologist will put water-based gel on your neck. Thereafter, they examine the thyroid and surrounding areas by placing the probe (camera) over them.
  8. What is the duration of the scan?
  9. The duration of the scan is usually 10 – 15 minutes and sometimes can take up to 20 minutes for one side depends on the visibility of organs and complexity of scan.
